About The Performer
Levin A. Diatschenko has practiced raja yoga meditation and Catholic prayer for over twenty years. He is a novelist, playwright, director, and musician. He’s published six novels and had many plays produced. He also studied classical music and has performed in various genres of music including surrealist rock, metal, classical guitar, avant‑garde, and an original soundtrack to the black‑and‑white film Nosferatu live at Deckchair Cinema.
In theatre and in music he has had performances in the Darwin Festival and the Darwin Fringe, and has launched his books at TINA (NYWF) in Newcastle. His book The Rooftop Sutras was shortlisted for the N.T. Book of the Year Award (2011), where Arnold Zable called him “the Kafka of the outback.” He has directed large‑scale plays for children (up to 80 participants including orchestra) and writes and directs films. Diatschenko also produces, edits, and writes for a free magazine called The Veil, which is devoted to mysticism, philosophy, and ethics.
He co‑founded the Darwin branch of AVP (Alternatives to Violence Project), a series of grassroots workshops developed in the 1970s by prison inmates and Quakers. He is also a Past Master of the Port Darwin Lodge of Freemasons, where he has lectured on mystic topics. He resides in Darwin, N.T., and is of Argentine and Ukrainian heritage.
